Personal Statement
One of my favorite things about being trained in family medicine is that I get to treat patients of all ages. I see children, seniors and everyone in between. As a primary care sports medicine physician, I see a lot of non-operative sports injuries and arthritis. Not every injury requires surgery, and that's where I come in. There are other techniques that we can use, whether it's physical therapy, massage therapy or injections. We will avoid or delay surgery if it's not needed.
My interest in medicine comes from my family. My father is a physician, my grandmother was a nurse and my father's uncle was also a physician. As I graduated college, a brand new medical school opened up in my small town, and I felt like that was a sign that this is what I am supposed to do.
My advice to patients is to stay active as long as they can, even if it's just walking every day for exercise. That's the most important thing they can do. My grandmother is 93 years old and she still gets up every morning at 6 a.m. and goes for a three-mile walk. I believe that really keeps you young. It doesn't matter what age you are, staying active really prevents a lot of health issues.
