Slow-healing or Nonhealing Wounds

Diagnosis

If your health care provider believes you may have slow-healing or nonhealing wounds, you will need certain tests to be sure. You should expect to be asked questions about your health history, your symptoms, risk factors and family history of disease. Understanding your background will help your provider make a diagnosis.
Your provider may also give you a physical exam that includes:

  • Hands-on assessment of the wound
  • Imaging scans to look for signs of bone fracture, blood clots or circulatory issues
  • Lab work to check for indicators of infection or sepsis and to check glucose levels
