Personal Statement
I was born and raised in a small town in southeastern Kentucky. I wanted to be a nurse my entire life and have always loved elderly people and children. After high school graduation, I moved to Lexington and attended the University of Kentucky where I earned both my Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Nursing. I have been married for 30 years, we raised 4 children and one of which has special healthcare needs and disabilities. This strengthened my focus to care for families and their children.
I began my career in 1997 as a pediatric registered nurse working in the Kentucky Children's Hospital. I decided to further my career and in 2004 and began practicing as a pediatric nurse practitioner, working with children who have chronic kidney disease. I have spent 9 years as an advanced practice provider taking care of children with chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and renal transplant. I also have a special interest in preventing disease in children with high BMI. In 2013 I returned to general pediatrics where I now practice in caring for healthy children. I love watching them grow and develop!
